BBQHQThe world of cooking over fire

Accessibility

What BBQHQ commits to, how it is checked, and where the limits are.

Last updated

The standard

BBQHQ aims to meet WCAG 2.1 at level AA. Every release is checked automatically against level A and AA rules, and a release with a violation does not ship — the accessibility suite is one of the thirteen gates the site must pass before it is built.

What is tested

Automated and behavioural checks run over representative pages of every kind.

  • Landmarks and heading order on every page template
  • Keyboard operation of the navigation, search, calculators and disclosures
  • A visible focus indicator, not merely a focusable element
  • An accessible name on every interactive control
  • The mobile navigation reporting its own expanded state
  • Temperatures rendered in both scales wherever guidance figures appear

Where the limits are

Automated testing does not prove usability. It cannot tell whether a diagram's description is genuinely useful to somebody who cannot see the diagram, or whether a page's reading order makes sense. BBQHQ's diagrams carry a title and a description written as part of the diagram rather than added afterwards, but they have not been tested with screen-reader users.

No formal third-party audit has been carried out. We would rather say so than imply one.

The documents this sits under

Where this page and a central HEKNO document differ on a matter the central document governs, the central document applies. The central instruments are published by HEKNO LTD and apply across its products:

The rest of the package

  • Terms of use The terms on which BBQHQ is published, including what its cooking and safety information is and is not.
  • Privacy notice What BBQHQ collects, what it is structurally incapable of collecting, and how analytics is gated behind your consent.
  • Cookies and storage BBQHQ sets nothing before you choose. What is stored, by whom, and how to change your mind.

We’d like to measure which pages help, using anonymous analytics with no personal data and no search terms. Declining changes nothing about the site.
